MUSIC BLOCK
SMCOC has a Music Block, which consists of three music classrooms, one for Primary School music lessons, one for Secondary School music lessons and one for private instrumental/singing lessons and College Bands’ rehearsals.
Primary Music Classroom
In the Primary Music classroom, posters of the musical elements, instrument families, traditional notation, recorder/ukulele chord charts, keyboard layout and music quotes are displayed on the walls to assist students with their learning.
The Primary Music Classroom is well-equipped with the following tuned and untuned instruments suitable for Primary School students:
Small untuned percussion instruments: tambourines, claves, triangles, maracas, jingle bells, bongos, cymbals and different types of wooden block.
Small tuned percussion instruments: glockenspiels, xylophones, boom whackers and hand bells.
Students undertaking Primary Music classes will have access to the following equipment:
- Ten keyboards
- A class set of ukuleles
- A class set of djembe drums and a set of dun-duns
- iPads with Music apps
- microphones and an amplifier
- Apple TV and a projector
Instrumental/Singing and Rehearsal Room
The Instrumental/Singing and Rehearsal Room is divided into two smaller rooms and is situated between Primary Music Classroom and Secondary School Music Classroom. Rooms are equipped with two acoustic drum kits, an electric drum kit, pianos and keyboards, violins, acoustic, electric and bass guitars, amps, microphones and music stands. Apart from instrumental and singing lessons, talented SMCOC’s students have their bands’ rehearsals here.
Secondary Music Classroom
SMCOC's Secondary School Music Classroom is outfitted with all the equipment needed for Secondary School students to take the next steps along their musical journey. With keyboards and acoustic guitars lining the walls of the Secondary Music Classroom, students have regular contact with instruments throughout their classroom activities and assessments. As students are encouraged to develop their understanding of the elements of music, students will rehearse and perform both solo and ensembles pieces throughout the school year, covering a variety of musical genres and even creating and recording their own music.
Students undertaking Secondary Music classes will have access to the following equipment:
- Keyboards
- Acoustic guitars
- Electric guitars
- Electric bass’
- Drums
- Microphones, speakers and amplifiers
- iRig recording interface’s
- iPads with music software/apps
- Projector
