COLLEGE CAPTAINS & HOUSE CAPTAINS

At SMCOC, we are committed to prepare our students to become professional leaders in their future careers, that can be facilitated by the numerous leadership opportunities for all year levels through which they can build their confidence and leadership skills.


College Captains and House Captains are two of the formal leadership roles that we are offering.

College Captains (2 captains, 2 vice captains)

Our College Captains are role models for our entire College. They have an outstanding history of performance and contribution and are respected by all members of the College community.


The College Captains (as part of SRC) will undertake leadership training provided by the College. They will be presented to the College in the first Whole College Assembly of the year they begin their term in office.


College Captains are expected to:

  • actively promote SMCOC’s values at all times,
  • provide leadership to the student cohort,
  • demonstrate a caring and supportive manner,
  • participate in College planning meetings with the College Principal and Assistant Principal,
  • lead and actively participate in Whole College Assemblies and Chapels,
  • represent the College at functions and events,
  • mentor other student leaders, and
  • organise meetings with the purpose of improving student engagement and wellbeing in the College.


Selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated ongoing commitment to SMCOC
  • An excellent academic record, including effort and attitude
  • An excellent record of conduct
  • A record of taking initiative and active participation in College activities
  • Strong communication skills

Ability to work co-operatively and collaboratively with others

House Captain (2 captains from each House)

The House Captains are role models students in their House. They have an outstanding history of performance and contribution. The House Captains play an important role in organising and presenting at any inter-House College events.


House Captains are expected to:

  • actively promote the College values at all times,
  • provide leadership to the student cohort,
  • demonstrate a caring and supportive manner,
  • assist with the organisation and conduct of House assemblies and activities,
  • lead, organise and motivate students to participate in House activities,
  • assist teachers in organising and running inter-House events,
  • liaise with other House captains to improve student engagement and participation in House activities within the College,
  • represent their House at functions and events,
  • mentor other students in the House, andliaise with students in other leadership roles to organise meetings with the purpose of improving student engagement and wellbeing in the College.
