MIDDLE SCHOOL
Our Middle School Team focuses on the most effective ways and approaches to meet the diverse psychological and educational needs of young adolescent learners. They also endeavour to provide learning opportunities and activities, which are targeted to facilitate academic excellence, nurture student’s individual strengths, empower students to reach their potential and glorify the Lord through their lives.
In addition, the Middle School Team ensures facilitation of activities, rules and procedures that enhance students’ individual personality development and the development of self-discipline. They focus on developing supportive relationships between students and between students and teachers.
Accordingly, the Middle School offers a multi-faceted learning journey, with a structured curriculum, that is developed and delivered in a safe and supportive environment. In addition, the Middle School program aims to nurture the social, emotional and physical development of our students. This is facilitated by activities and programs both inside the classroom and outside. This way, students in the Middle School can be empowered to grow into responsible citizens in a globalised world.
We employ an Inquiry model of learning across all the Key Learning Areas of English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Arts, Health and Physical Education and LanguagesIn addition, we integrate the use of technology in a natural and exciting way for our students. Students use a range of technologies such as laptop computers, iPads and Interactive Whiteboards as part of their learning and our staff are constantly training in the latest teaching methods and techniques.
Learning Strategies
The Middle School Program focuses on creating a learning environment that:
- encourages and reinforces students’ responsibility towards their own safety and the safety of their peers,
- ensures students’ active participation in Chapels,
- empowers students to build a positive sense of identity as Christians, who glorify the Lord in all they do and utilise all resources God gave them in a manner that honours God,
- facilitates inquiry of knowledge and application of skills,
- emphasises academic excellence and achievement,
- attends to individual needs, as well as collective needs of learners in all year levels,
- attends to Australian needs and interests, as well as facilitating acquisition of international requirements and challenges to live in this day and age,
- inspires students to consolidate their skills as self-autonomous learners,
- supports the learning of students with learning needs,
- provides support and multiple programs to maximise improvement of EAL students,
- focuses on literacy and numeracy skills to empower students to develop a strong foundation before they move to their secondary years of education,
- fosters creative thinking and creativity in Music and Visual Arts,
- promotes health and active life style and fitness through the Physical Education Program and included activities, such as tennis Program, Lunchtime Sports, swimming and sports programs and carnivals, and
- complements learning in classroom with Lunchtime Clubs, incursions, excursions and camps.
